زارني والظلام صافي الإزار

والدياجي مطيَّة الأقمارِ

والدياجي مطيَّة الأقمارِ

He visited me while darkness's robe was unblemished,

He visited me while the darkness was clear of skirt,

and the dark nights were the moons' mount—

And the nights were saddled with moons,

ذو قوامِ أقام حجَّةَ وجدي

ذو قوامِ أقام حجَّةَ وجدي

وعذارِ تمَّت به أعذاري

وعذارِ تمَّت به أعذاري

one whose stature established the case for my passion,

Of upright stature, he presented an argument for my passion,

and whose cheek-down made my excuses complete.

And with his reproach, my excuses were complete.
