He drew aside a veil: behold the nearer moon.
He unveiled, so the low moon shone
And cast off a sash: pluck the supple branch.
And threw off his cloak, so the tender branch bowed

Watch the lightning of that smile that faded;
And gave off the lightning of that smile which had been hidden
how often watched lightning has faded, then brought rainclouds!
So how much hidden lightning gave love and made love desired

my heart—or his eyelid—has always been its sheath.
My heart is still his, or his eyelid, eyelid

in him I beheld the sun, the sandhill, and the branch.
So I saw in him the sun, the slender branch and branch

much beauty he possessed, yet we praised no kindness of his.
And how much good he gained, we never praised his goodness
