And banana trees beside which we camped—

Ah, may God reward their kindness!

Their taste was sweet, and their fragrance grew

For whoever tasted them and whoever smelled them.

So, if anyone has neglected his guests,

They do not neglect their own.

    وجاذبت الريح أعطافا

    Like green banners when unfurled,

    And the wind tugged at their folds;

Or else, their forms are maidens who danced

And kept passing their swords around.

So, had I been bound by anything but reason,

I would have risen and kissed their tips.
