وأبيض من نجل الكرام كأنما

خلائقه في لطفهن ابنة الكرم

And a fair man of noble descent, as though

Brighter than the purest sand, so it would seem,

His traits, in their delicacy, were the daughter of the vine.

In gentleness his nature rivals generosity's scion.

أشم حوى من كل مدحة

أشم حوى من كل مدحة

كذا المدحة الشماء وقف على الشم

كذا المدحة الشماء وقف على الشم

A lofty man who has garnered every kind of praise;

I smell sweetness from every praise,

Thus lofty praise is reserved for lofty men.

Just so, fragrant praise halted at its mark.

تجلى ظلام الدهر عني بوجهه

تجلى ظلام الدهر عني بوجهه

واقلع صرف النائبات عن الظلم

واقلع صرف النائبات عن الظلم

The darkness of time lifted from me through his face,

The darkness of time lifted from me by his face,

And the vicissitudes of calamity ceased their oppression.

And the blows of misfortune pulled away from injustice.

وإني لاستجدي العلى من جنابه

وإني لاستجدي العلى من جنابه

وما ضل مستجدي المعالي عن النجم

وما ضل مستجدي المعالي عن النجم

And I indeed beg for high honor from his presence,

Truly I seek the Highest from his side,

And no seeker of high honors strays from the star.

Nor did seeker of glory stray from the star.
