نَفَحاتُ أُنْسٍ أم شَذا ألطافِ

نَفَحاتُ أُنْسٍ أم شَذا ألطافِ

أمْ ذي خَلائِق روضةٍ مئنافِ

أمْ ذي خَلائِق روضةٍ مئنافِ

Wafts of companionship, or the fragrance of kindness?

Are they breaths of intimacy or fragrant meadows?

Or are these the charms of a fresh, unspoiled meadow?

Or one with charming nature's garden overflowing?

أَمْ تلكَ وافدةُ الودادِ جَلَتْ على

أَمْ تلكَ وافدةُ الودادِ جَلَتْ على

يدِ من نودّ رغيبة الإِتحافِ

يدِ من نودّ رغيبة الإِتحافِ

Or is that affection’s emissary, unveiling through

Or is it that friendship that came to

the hand of one we love a precious offering?

The hand of one who desires to present a gift?

كَلِمٌ وأسجاعٌ تراصفَ دُرُّها

كَلِمٌ وأسجاعٌ تراصفَ دُرُّها

وبدائِعٌ أعيَتْ مَدى الأوصاف

وبدائِعٌ أعيَتْ مَدى الأوصاف

Words and rhymed passages, their pearls closely arrayed,

Words and rhythms lined up like pearls

and marvels that defied the reach of description.

And wonders beyond the reach of description.

فِقَر تلاحَم نسجها وبدائِعٌ

فِقَر تلاحَم نسجها وبدائِعٌ

أوفت محاسنها على الأوصاف

أوفت محاسنها على الأوصاف

Passages whose weave was tightly knit, and marvels

So perfectly woven, so wondrously exhibiting

whose beauties surpassed description.

Beautiful qualities beyond all descriptions.
