لئِن جَلَّ المصاب بخير نَجْلٍ

لئِن جَلَّ المصاب بخير نَجْلٍ

لصدر بَني العُلا يومَ الرِهانِ

لصدر بَني العُلا يومَ الرِهانِ

Though grievous was the blow of losing the finest son,

If indeed the loss of the finest son is grievous

for the foremost of noble men on the day of ordeal,

for the foremost of the sons of eminence on the day of contest,

فقد جلَّ العزاء له ببيتٍ

فقد جلَّ العزاء له ببيتٍ

به التأريخ يُفْصِحُ بالبيانِ

به التأريخ يُفْصِحُ بالبيانِ

great, too, was the consolation a verse afforded him;

then great indeed is his consolation in a verse

through it the chronogram speaks out with perfect clarity:

in which the chronogram speaks plainly:

محمّده الأمين بدارِ حقٍّ

محمّده الأمين بدارِ حقٍّ

لدى السعداء في أعلا الجِنانِ

لدى السعداء في أعلا الجِنانِ

“His faithful Muhammad is in the Abode of Truth,

His Muhammad, the trustworthy, is in an abode of truth,

among the blessed, in the highest gardens.”

among the blessed in the highest gardens of Paradise.
