O two sweet basils of brotherhood's garden, and two luminaries

of purity's horizon, and two blossoms of my companionship,

I offer you both my sincerest greetings as a gift,

with a salutation whose breaths are musk-scented,

from a garden on Qasioun, where drifted

    the north wind over the myrtle boughs;

and a garden whose curving boughs have become

clad in the brocade that spring has woven.

And the birds, like songstresses, sing out

there, calling to one another in the darkness of early dawn.

So, both of you, rouse love's resolve tomorrow,

for a congenial place of fellowship among the hills.

May you both ever remain in the shade of a delightful life,

presiding with honor among the people.
