رشي القدّ أهيفْ

رشي القدّ أهيفْ

Many a dusky, dark-eyed beauty,

Many a night my eyelids reddened and swelled,

Graceful of figure and slender-waisted,

My cheeks grew lean and my hair turned white,

كلَّما حَنَّ تَمادى

كلَّما حَنَّ تَمادى

وإِذا أوْعَدَ أخلفْ

وإِذا أوْعَدَ أخلفْ

Whenever he yearns, he goes further,

The more he promised, the more he failed,

And when he threatens, he fails to follow through.

And the more he professed his love, the more he lied.
