أحْسِنْHow lovely! بمجلسِis a gathering أنُسٍof convivial delight يانعِflourishing الزَهَرِthe blossoms
أحْسِنْ بمجلسِ أنُسٍ يانعِ الزَهَرِ
أبانَrevealed عنconcerning كلِّevery معنىًconception فيهwithin it مُبْتَكَرِoriginal
أبانَ عن كلِّ معنىً فيه مُبْتَكَرِ
How lovely a convivial gathering, its blossoms fresh,
How lovely a gathering of delight, lush with blossoms!
revealing every meaning within it, newly conceived.
It reveals every original conception within it.
وانظرand look إلىat بُرْكةٍa pool تجلوunveils مشاربهاits watering places
وانظر إلى بُرْكةٍ تجلو مشاربها
عرائسbrides الوردthe roses فيin مَوْشِيّةembroidered الحِبَرstriped robes
عرائس الورد في مَوْشِيّة الحِبَر
And look upon a pool whose watering places are unveiled
And look at a pool whose waters unveil
by rose-brides in embroidered, many-hued robes.
Rose-brides in embroidered, striped robes.
تناظرتfaced one another حولهاaround it والزهرand the blossoms منعكفٌclustered around
تناظرت حولها والزهر منعكفٌ
تناظرfacing one another الحُورthe houris قدindeed قامتstood علىupon سُرُرِcouches
تناظر الحُور قد قامت على سُرُرِ
They face one another around it, while blossoms bend close,
They face one another around it, the blossoms clustered close,
as houris gaze upon each other, standing upon couches.
As houris face one another, standing upon couches.
وقدand indeed علاrose above بعضهاsome of them بعضاًothers فلاحَso appeared لناto us
وقد علا بعضها بعضاً فلاحَ لنا
خلالهاamong them فُرَجٌopenings تدعوinvite إلىto النَظَرgazing
خلالها فُرَجٌ تدعو إلى النَظَر
Some have risen over others, so there gleam before us
And some have risen above others, so there appear to us
gaps between them that invite the gaze—
Openings among them that invite us to gaze.
مثلlike القصورthe palaces وقدand indeed أفضتopened out مناظرهاtheir viewing windows
مثل القصور وقد أفضت مناظرها
إلىonto قرارةthe depths جوّa space زاهرradiant الزَهرthe blossoms
إلى قرارة جوّ زاهر الزَهر
like palaces whose outlooks open
Like palaces whose viewing windows open
onto the depths of a space radiant with flowers.
Onto the depths of a space radiant with blossoms.
أبدتrevealed تماثيلlikenesses ماwhat حاكَwove الربيعُspring لناfor us
أبدت تماثيل ما حاكَ الربيعُ لنا
ودبّجتهand embroidered it يدُthe hand الأنواءthe seasonal rains فيin السَحَرthe predawn hours
ودبّجته يدُ الأنواء في السَحَر
They display likenesses of what spring has woven for us
It reveals likenesses of what spring wove for us
and what the hand of the rain-bearing stars embroidered at dawn.
And the hand of the rains embroidered before dawn.
فتحتَso beneath أحمرَred قانٍdeep crimson أبيضٌwhite يقَقٌpure white
فتحتَ أحمرَ قانٍ أبيضٌ يقَقٌ
علىabove اصفرٍyellow فاقعvivid فيin أخضرgreen نَضِرِlush
على اصفرٍ فاقع في أخضر نَضِرِ
Beneath deep crimson lies a white of dazzling purity,
So beneath deep red lies pure white,
above brilliant yellow set in fresh, luxuriant green.
Above vivid yellow, amid lush green.
