كأنّما شجرات الدَّوْح في خِلَع

كأنّما شجرات الدَّوْح في خِلَع

تندى فيبلغ أقصى الحسن مبلَغها

تندى فيبلغ أقصى الحسن مبلَغها

As though the grove’s trees were clad in robes of honor,

As if the doum-palm trees in the folds

Glistening with dew, so that beauty at its utmost reaches their level.

Of a valley were moistened till utmost beauty they reach.

أرواحُ درٍّ تبيتُ المزن في بشَرٍ

أرواحُ درٍّ تبيتُ المزن في بشَرٍ

من الزُمرَّدِ بالأنواء تفرغها

من الزُمرَّدِ بالأنواء تفرغها

Souls of pearls: all night the rain clouds, into skins

Spirits of pearl spending the night in human bodies

Of emerald, pour them forth with the seasonal rains.

From emerald poured into them.

ماجت بمدرجةِ الأنفاسِ واطردت

ماجت بمدرجةِ الأنفاسِ واطردت

كأنّما حولَها أيدٍ تدغدغها

كأنّما حولَها أيدٍ تدغدغها

They swayed in the path of breaths and flowed on,

They swayed to the terrace of breaths, driven

As though hands all around them were tickling them.

As if hands were fondling them around.
