    firmly composed and well-formed.

I said: Away with you, and to perdition!

For all your minds are sick.

After you, calamities have befallen us

that cripple us and keep us howling.

The armies of error have scattered in disarray,

    defeated in the worst defeat.

And Truth, after humiliation, caught up

with us through its death-dealing deeds.

like you, who makes light of enormities?

Your day of death has left your brother in faith,

    Iblis, utterly spent in resolve.

You were his support, the equal

    of all his accursed devils.

Whom had you charged with sins

    among this sinful band?

Whom, to harm a noble, generous man,

have you left behind—or a freeborn, honorable woman?

After you, no chaste woman has been searched,

nor has a helpless man complained of wrong.

They have freed townsfolk and desert-dwellers,

the unarmed and white blades, from ruthless designs.

on these mortals a merciful glance.

to the abodes of affliction and disgrace!

How many a hell-warden will greet you,

cruelty of nature his inborn trait,

just as you greeted boats upon the water,

    bearing precious wares from Babylon!

The prostitute who fed you as a child

is surely blameworthy for what she did.

For she had seen with her own eyes

your ill omen while you were still in the fetal sac.

How often you ravaged her clitoris with bites

that kindled in her a shameful lust,

seeking semen from her as nourishment,

though it is not of comely appearance.

to a vulva resembling a furnace!

pouring into her like steady rain.

    leaving her aching parts wounded.

you turned to the shameful trade.

you left its doors blocked up.

So that every male prostitute went away

with rancor against you in his heart.

you snared with your mellow tones!

And, by my life, how many a thousand thirsty men

    has your solitary mim overpowered!

Until, after a time, you grew up,

and the vile beard grew long,

you became the toll-collector of an evil land,

whose soil has never ceased to suffer wrong.

    بِذاكَ كُلُّ الوَرى عَليمَه

    The worst of men founded it;

    all humankind knows that.

and you are the least worthy among them.

May God destroy you! How often you feign blindness

    and subvert the upright tradition!

You levy a toll on the stranger's provisions

    and his garment—what an enormity!

Hold! For oppressors there surely await

downfalls, every one of them dire.
