The earth’s regions have smiling abodes.

And the eye of the rain clouds pours down tears.

And the face of the earth beams with smiles.

And the singer of the great trees is denied sleep.

And branches, as though intoxication were in them,

Have acted young, though their boughs are gray.

The nights of sorrow have indeed grown long, so grant leave.

Resistant to parting, yet yielding in union.

And none pours it for you but a gazelle,

Resistant to parting, yet yielding in union.

A wine that, if it struck on a day of battle,

Would have slain the valiant lion.

And if it passed over the forbearance of Ibn Qays,

He would become like a suckling infant.
