لاnot يَبخِلونَthey are stingy بِزادِهمwith their provisions عَنfrom سائِلٍone who asks
عَدَلdealt justly الزَمانُtime عَليهمُtoward them أَوor جاراacted unjustly
They do not withhold their provisions from one who asks,
whether time treats them justly or unjustly.
وَإِذاand when الصَريخُthe caller for help دَعاهُمُcalled them لِمُلمَّةfor a calamity
بَذَلواthey gave freely النُفوسَlives وَفارَقواand they parted with الأَعماراlifespans
And when a caller for help summons them to face calamity,
they give their lives and part with their years.
وَإِذاand when زِنادُflints of الحَربِwar أَخمدَquenched نارَهاits fire
قَدَحواthey kindled بِأَطرافwith the tips of الأَسِنَّةِthe spearheads ناراfire
And when war's flints have quenched its fire,
they kindle fire with the tips of their spearheads.
فمنso whoever اِستَغاثَهُمُsought their aid اِستَغاثَsought aid from ضَراغماًlions
وَمَنand whoever اِستَماحَهُمُasked them for gifts اِستَماحَasked for gifts from بحاراseas
So whoever seeks their aid seeks the aid of lions,
and whoever seeks their bounty seeks the bounty of seas.
