أَأُمسيshall I spend the evening فيin جِوارthe vicinity of الغَثيِthe rain (apparently intended) عَطشىthirsty
أَأُمسي في جِوار الغَثيِ عَطشى
وَقَدwhen already رَوىhas watered البلادَthe lands نَدىthe dew نديّهof his assembly
وَقَد رَوى البلادَ نَدى نديّه
Shall I spend the evening thirsty beside the rain,
when the dew of his assembly has already watered the lands?
وَيَهضمُand be slighted جانِبيmy standing وَاللَيثُwhile the lion جاريmy neighbor
وَيَهضمُ جانِبي وَاللَيثُ جاري
لَعمرِكَby your life أَنَّthat ذاthis عَيبٌa disgrace عَليّهupon him
لَعمرِكَ أَنَّ ذا عَيبٌ عَليّه
And shall I be slighted while the lion is my neighbor?
By your life, this is a disgrace to him.
