May God send rain upon that dwelling and its clan—

After it, we folded pleasures away completely—

And upon the days that passed near you,

As though life in them had been a shade.

    أُواجِهُها فَتُمليهِ عَليّا

    I find with the winds a message of yours;

I face them, and they dictate it to me.

I grow jealous when the branches lean toward them,

For fear they will tell something of it.

When they blow, I burden them with a sigh,

And their burden returns as perfume and fragrance.

As though they fear a watcher,

So they journey to me by night in fear.
