يقولُ وَقَد عاتَبتُهُ حينَ زارَني

يقولُ وَقَد عاتَبتُهُ حينَ زارَني

عَلى الصَدِّ دَعني من ذُنوبي الأَوائلِ

عَلى الصَدِّ دَعني من ذُنوبي الأَوائلِ

He says, after I reproached him when he visited me

He says, and I had reproached him when he visited me

for turning away: “Spare me talk of my earlier sins,

For being aloof: “Leave my early sins be.”

وَفُضَّ بصيرَ اللَيلِ بالوَصلِ واتَّرِك

وَفُضَّ بصيرَ اللَيلِ بالوَصلِ واتَّرِك

زَمانَ العتابِ يَنقَضي بالرَسائِلِ

زَمانَ العتابِ يَنقَضي بالرَسائِلِ

and break open the night’s ‘seeing one’ with reunion, and let

So unveil the vision of union in the dark night,

the time for reproach pass in letters.”

And leave behind the time of reproach to pass through messages.
