Ah, O Nasir al-Din, in whom hope is placed

for every great undertaking and every act of generosity!

I vowed to fast all my life, should you come,

sound in body, for God, the Praiseworthy.

And indeed, if I see you, my vow falls due,

and fasting is owed to God, the Glorious.

And the strangest thing said is that fasting is obligatory

upon me, though I have seen the crescent of Eid.

So live on and stay well, despite the envier,

and live as long as you wish in a life of ease.
