ماnot رَعَدَتit thundered رَعدَةًa thunderclap وَلاnor بَرَقَتit flashed lightning

It gave no thunderclap, nor flashed with lightning.
It thundered not, nor did lightning flash,
Yet it was formed for us, a smooth cloud.
Yet it was created for us in its nature,
الماءُthe water يَجريflows عَلىalong نِظامٍan ordered course لَهُfor it
لَوif يَجِدُfinds الماءُthe water مَخرَقاًan opening خَرَقَهbroke through it
The water flows along its ordered course;
Water flows according to a system of its own,
If the water found an opening, it would break through it.
If water found an outlet it would breach it,
بِتناwe spent the night وَباتَتand she spent the night عَلىupon نَمارِقِهاher cushions
حَتّىuntil بَداappeared الصُبحُthe dawn عَينُهاher eye أَرِقَهsleepless
We spent the night, and she spent it upon her cushions,
We spent the night tossing on our beds
Until dawn appeared, her eye sleepless,
Until dawn appeared with bloodshot eyes,
أَنbecause قيلَit was said إِنَّthat الرَحيلَthe departure بَعدَafter غَدٍtomorrow
وَالدارُand the camp بَعدَafter الجَميعِtogetherness مُفتَرِقَهscattered
Because it was said that departure was the day after tomorrow,
When it was said that departure would be the day after tomorrow
And the camp, once united, would be scattered.
And the house after all had departed would be desolate.
