نثرك زان الطروس والورقا

زينة شهب الكواكب الأفقا

Your prose adorned the written pages and the paper,

As bright stars adorn the horizon.

نسقت عقد الكمال منتظما

من المعاني لئالئا نسقا

You strung the necklace of perfection in due order,

With pearls of meaning arranged in a row.

وروضة الفضل اطلعت زهراً

يثني شذاها عليك ما عبقا

And the garden of excellence has brought forth blossoms,

Its fragrance praises you as long as it wafts.

قد جادها منك صوب غادية

من عيلم العلم تحمل الغدقا

A morning cloud from you has watered it with showers,

Bearing abundant rain from the vast ocean of knowledge.

يا جوهراً صاغه الزمان له

تاج فخار بفرقه ائتلقا

O jewel that Time fashioned for itself,

A crown of glory that gleamed upon its head.

سبقت في حلبة العلى وكذا

كل جواد إذا جرى سبقا

You took the lead in the racecourse of eminence; likewise,

Every noble steed takes the lead whenever it runs.

في كل أرض سيرت شاردة

ذكرك يحدو هجانها عنقا

In every land you sent forth a wandering verse,

Your renown sings its noble white camels onward in long strides—

أوانسا تجتلي محانسها

فتسترق القلوب والحدقا

Maidens whose charms you behold,

And so they enslave hearts and eyes.

فابق رفيع المقام مقتنياً

طرائف القول ناصعا يققا

So remain exalted in rank, possessing

Rare gems of speech, yourself pure and dazzlingly white,

ما افتر ثغر منضد ورنا

طرف غضيض وماس غصن نقا

As long as a mouth with even teeth smiles, and a steady gaze is cast

By a downcast eye, and a bough upon a sand dune sways.
