out of searing longing, what I conceal.

What I conceal of agonizing longing.

From ardent longing I go mad.

واذكر عهدكم فاكاد شوقا

واذكر عهدكم فاكاد شوقا

على اني الرصين حجى اجن

على اني الرصين حجى اجن

I remember the days I shared with you, and for longing I nearly—

And I recall the days with you, and almost, from longing,

And when I recall your covenant, longing

though I am a man of sober judgment—go mad.

Go mad, though my judgment is sound.

Almost makes wise me act insane.

أيرجع بالطفوف زمان وصل

أيرجع بالطفوف زمان وصل

فيرجع عيشنا البهج الاغن

فيرجع عيشنا البهج الاغن

Will a time of union return at al-Tufuf,

Will a time of union return at al-Tufuf,

Will the time of union return

and our radiant, flourishing life return?

And our joyous, luxuriant life return?

So our joyous life returns?

أحن وهل يلام أخو غرام

إلى أحبابه شوقا يحن

I yearn—and is a lover ever blamed

Yearning - and is a love-sick one blamed

when he longs yearningly for those he loves?

When he yearns for his loved ones out of longing?

When to his beloved he longs?
