Your faces are turned toward the stars, and I will not be content

Your sights are set upon the stars, I'm told

for you with anything less than rivaling the stars in height.

For you I wish but to reach the stars of old

لكم سلف به الدنيا اضاءت

وأنتم صفوة السلف الكريم

You have forebears through whom the world shone,

A past generation made the world bright

and you are the finest of that noble line.

فكونوا مثله شرفا وعلماً

فما يغني الحديث عن القديم

So be like them in honor and learning,

Be like them in knowledge and in might

for talk of the past is of no avail.

For talk of youth won't replace the time

The cherished homeland looks to you

The homeland freed expects your success

for success, for its hope is great.

Great hopes for you it does profess
