عليك بحسن الصبر فالصبر منحة

من الله ان الله جم مواهبه

Hold fast to graceful patience, for patience is a gift

from God; indeed, God's gifts are abundant.

فأيسر ما في الصبر تنفيس كربة

وتفريج غم تعتريك غواربه

For the least that patience offers is the easing of distress

and the dispelling of grief whose wave-crests assail you.

وليس بمغن عنك بث وعبرة

وشكوى زمان لا ترد نوائبه

Neither lamentation nor a tear will avail you,

nor complaint against time, whose calamities cannot be averted.

واعظم رزء فقد اصطباره

وان كثرت ارزاؤه ومصائبه

And the greatest calamity is losing one's patient endurance,

even if one's afflictions and misfortunes are many.

ومن جد في أمر يعز طلابه

ينل بجميل الصبر ما هو طالبه

And whoever strives earnestly for a goal hard to attain

will attain, through graceful patience, what he seeks.
