  1. خير من الرسم ان يبقي الفتى اثرا

    فان بالذكر يبقى عمره الثاني

    Better than a portrait is for a young man to leave a mark;

    for through remembrance his second life endures.

  2. فالرسم يبقى قليلا ثم يتبعه

    والحمد يخلد ما كرّ الجديدان

    For the portrait lasts a little while, then follows him;

    and praise endures as long as night and day recur.
