أفنى بحدِّ السيف آجال العدا

وسيوفه وعوالي المرانِ

With the sword’s edge he spent his foes’ allotted lives—

He ended the lives of foes with the sword’s edge,

and his swords, and the spearheads of supple lances.

and wore out his swords and the tips of pliant spears.

والضرب يفعل بالحسام وحدّه

والضرب يفعل بالحسام وحدّه

ما تفعل الآجال بالإنسانِ

ما تفعل الآجال بالإنسانِ

Repeated blows do to the saber and its edge

And striking with the keen sword and its edge does

what appointed deaths do to a human being.
