Tell Yahya: I have grown weary of my lovers.

So let him fuck whomever he wishes among my companions.

We abandoned our passion for beardless youths when

we had tasted the pleasures of bachelors.

We loathed the men who hired themselves out, so we turned,

after experience, to coupling with whores.

How lovely a singing slave-girl of the household of Banu al-Minjab,

    who settled in al-Minjab's courtyard!

She bore it out, as the shape of vulvas tells me:

    "Anuses are not for cocks."

How lovely that woman is when she sings to you, O Yahya,

and gives you drink from sweet front teeth!

The heart recalled Umm Zayd once,

while the mounts were on the plain—Sahb al-Rikab.

How lovely, when you mounted her and she arched away,

    complaining to you during intercourse,

and sang while you thrust into her,

with no fear of them or anxious watchfulness.

My side indeed keeps away from the bed,

like a sore-chested camel holding itself above the hillocks.

If only I knew: shall I hear, once

the scribes' troubling whispers have left me,

from a girl like a tender bough of a bān tree,

into whom bliss has poured the water of youth,

as she sings to you over a thin curtain,

    melodies that you rightly love?

A patterned cloth from al-Janad lets her show through,

so she is like the sun through the clouds.

Many a poem have I uttered with pride,

and men of understanding are captivated by it.

I have left the fault-finders so that, whenever

they recite it, they stand on their tails.
