O son of caliphs, and son of every blessed man,
O son of caliphs and son of all the blessed
Head of the pillars, foremost of the branches,
The pillar of pillars, the foremost of branches
إنّindeed العلوجthe barbarians علىagainst ابنthe son of عمكyour paternal uncle أصفقواthey banded together
فأتوكso they came to you عنهabout him بأعظمwith the gravest البهتانِslander
Indeed, the barbarians have banded together against your cousin,
Verily the Al-Ulajj have clapped against your cousin
So they came to you with the gravest slander about him.
And come to you against him with the greatest of lies
قرفوهthey accused him عندكbefore you بالتعديof aggression ظالماًas an oppressor
وهمthough they ابتدوهassailed him first بأعظمwith the gravest العدوانِaggression
They accused him before you of aggression, calling him an oppressor,
They have defamed him with you as an oppressor
Though they first assailed him with the gravest aggression.
While they started with him the greatest of aggressions
شتمواthey reviled لهbelonging to him عِرضاًhonor أغرَّillustrious مهذَّباunsullied

They reviled his illustrious, unsullied honor;
They have reviled his honor which refined
Their own honor is more deserving of every disgrace.
While their own honor is most deserving of abasement
وسمواand they rose بأجسامwith bodies إليهtoward him مهينةٍcontemptible

And they rose toward him with contemptible bodies,
And they attributed to him degraded bodies
Joined to the vilest arms and fingers,
While the Mother of the Two Arms and the Two Branches was created

Created for hauling a ship's cable, not for laying hands on
To extend the robe not to violate
The nobleman's honor, nor for stretching a rein.
The honor of the noble nor to extend the bridle

They did not respect his kinship with you enough to desist,
They did not respect his kinship to you and thus refrain
Since they did not fear the sovereign's sanctity.
Since they did not fear the sanctity of the Sultan
أيذلُّmust he be abased? مظلوماwrongfully وجدّكthough your grandfather جدّهis his grandfather
كيماso that يعزَّmay gain honor بذلهthrough his abasement علجانِtwo barbarians
Must he be wrongfully abased, though your grandfather is his,
Would you humiliate an oppressed man whose grandfather was yours
So that two barbarians may gain honor through his abasement,
So that thereby the Al-`Ulajj would be honored
وينالand achieve أقلفan uncircumcised man كربلاءKarbala بلادهhis homeland

ذُلَّthe abasement of ابنthe son of عمِّthe paternal uncle of خليفةthe caliph of الرحمانِthe All-Merciful
And an uncircumcised man, whose homeland is Karbala, achieve
And the wretched of Karbala would gain his country
The abasement of the cousin of the All-Merciful's caliph?
The humiliation of the cousin of the Caliph of the Merciful

Indeed, I seek protection for you lest through you be attained that
I seek refuge for you from that with which
By which the barbarians lord it over Adnan.
The Al-Ulajj tyrannize over Adnan
