أقبرO grave أبيof Abu أميةUmayyah لوif علاهhis greatness
أقبر أبي أمية لو علاه
حملتَyou had borne إذنthen لضقتَyou would have been constrained بهby him ذراعاin capacity (literally, arm's length)
حملتَ إذن لضقتَ به ذراعا
O grave of Abu Umayyah, if his greatness
you had borne, you would then have found him beyond your capacity.
حويتyou have enclosed الجودgenerosity والتقوىand piety وعمراand Amr
حويت الجود والتقوى وعمرا
فكيفthen how أطقتَcould you manage ياO قبرgrave أضطلاعاbearing a burden
فكيف أطقتَ يا قبر أضطلاعا
You have enclosed generosity, piety, and Amr.
How, then, O grave, could you bear such a burden?
لموتهمbecause of their death أطقتyou were able لهfor him انضماماclosing together
لموتهم أطقت له انضماما
ولولاand were it not for ذاكthat لمnot تُطقyou could manage اتساعاspaciousness
ولولا ذاك لم تُطق اتساعا
Because of their death, you could close around him;
and were it not for that, you could not have been wide enough.
