طال على البصرة إشفاقي

وبتُّ من خوفٍ على ساقِ

وبتُّ من خوفٍ على ساقِ

Long has my concern for Basra endured;

My anxious concern for Basra has lasted long,

My yearning for Basra has grown long

I spent the night poised to flee in fear.

And fear kept me on my feet through the night.

I spend the nights anxious and distraught

لا تأمن الخسف على بلدةٍ

لا تأمن الخسف على بلدةٍ

أميرُها الفضل بن إسحاقِ

أميرُها الفضل بن إسحاقِ

Do not deem a city safe from being swallowed by the earth

Do not think a town safe from being swallowed by the earth,

No town is safe from sinking into the abyss

when its governor is al-Faḍl ibn Isḥāq.

Whose governor is al-Fadl ibn Ishaq.

When its ruler is Al-Fadl bin Ishaq
