If uncles were granted their wishes concerning a brother's son,
If uncles granted their nephews every wish
you would find yourself in the belly of a large ship bound for China.
I'd be inside a roc flying off to China
قدindeed كانwould have been همّاًa grief طويلاًlasting لاnot يقامone can stand up لهto it
لوif كانwere رؤيتناour seeing أياكyou فيat الحِينِan interval
It would indeed have been a lasting grief beyond endurance
After bearing this endless grief without relief
if we saw you only now and then.
If just to see you for a moment, that would be fine

How, then, can we endure, now you are more abundant in
But harder still when constantly before my eye
our field of vision than the sands of Yabrin?
More than sand grains you appear at ev'ry shine

O most detested of men in hardship and prosperity,
O most hated of men in good times and bad
and foulest of men in worldly life and in religion!
In life and faith the foulest of all mankind

Yours is the arrogance of kings when you get hold of a copper coin,
Kings in need you trick and treat most mean
and when you lose it, the abasement of paupers.
Once sated with wealth the poor you undermine
لوif شاءwilled ربِّيmy Lord لأضحىHe would surely be واهباًgranting لأخيto my brother

If my Lord so willed, He would surely grant my brother
If God had willed, payment to my brother
for the bitter grief of your death, a reward without end.
For your misdeeds would be beyond all bounds

And it would have been better for him had he worn a loincloth
Better for him girt in bygone garb
in bygone days over an impotent man's penis.
Like a brave knight in armor ironclad fine

And to one who asked me, 'What has made you waste away?' I said,
When asked why so sad I said to them
'A person whose face my eye beholds—and he makes me waste away.'
A face I see makes my eyes shed their brine

Indeed, hearts fold up because of you, O my brother's son,
Hearts recoil from you, O nephew mine
when they see you, as though folding around knives.
Like knives you wound them ev'ry time

They praise you neither for looks nor for character,
No virtue or morals make them admire you
when they see you, nor for worldly matters nor religion.
Whether worldly goods or those of the divine

How could the witness of three fear you
three: two false witnesses and a madman?
When two are liars and third is out of his mind
