أطاع الفريضة والسُّنَّة

أطاع الفريضة والسُّنَّة

فتاه على الأنس والجِنَّهْ

فتاه على الأنس والجِنَّهْ

He observed the prescribed duty and the Sunnah,

He obeyed religious duty and tradition

then grew haughty over humankind and the jinn,

His youth enamored of intimacy and jinn

كأنَّ لنا النار من دونه

كأنَّ لنا النار من دونه

وأفراده اللّه بالجَنَّهْ

وأفراده اللّه بالجَنَّهْ

as though the Fire were for us, not him,

As if for us without him is the fire

and God had singled him out for Paradise.

And God singled him out for Heaven

وينظر نحوي إذا زرته

وينظر نحوي إذا زرته

بعين حماة إلى كَنَّهْ

بعين حماة إلى كَنَّهْ

And he looks toward me when I visit him,

He looks at me when I visit him

with a mother-in-law’s gaze at a daughter-in-law.

With the eye of a protector toward his tribe
