Have you changed from the courtesy I once knew in you?

Or is kingship yours, that you have grown haughty in your letters?

Or do you think that fair dealing with the

brethren detracts from your ancestral honor?

Or was what you did prompted by anger?

Then what drew you near to your anger?

Indeed, the coldness of a trusted person's letter

lies in its opening—and may your company long be enjoyed!

What of fair treatment for us at your hands, when you have

shared lineage with the Prophet's household?

Say to the loyalty that is esteemed

by your soul in me: 'I have grown weary of seeking you.'

    You have wearied both your hands in corresponding with me;

let the weariness you have already endured suffice you.
