  1. كذبتم بل أنتمُ أهل حرةٍ

    نفوكم وحلّوا بالدماث وبالسهل

    You lied! Rather, it was you whom the people of a lava field

    Drove out, and they settled on soft ground and on the plain.

  2. أبوا واستعفوا أن يُرى بجلودهم

    ندوب فباعوا السقيَ بالحلة البعل

    They refused and sought to be spared having their skins show

    Scars; so they traded irrigated land for the rain-fed settlement.
