    بلغ سيلُ الهمِّ منا الزُّبى

    O Pole of this universe, grant succor, for

    The torrent of sorrow has reached our hilltops;

    And fate has scowled in our faces,

    So the girth-strap [probable reading] has passed beyond our teats,

    And the pack-pin has reached our hips,

    And the wide expanse is barred on the way to success.

    فكن لهذا الداء عين الشِّفا

    And you know our ailment in full;

    So be the very cure for this ailment.

    تعلم ما دقّ وأخفى الخفا

    And you are God's secret on His earth;

    You know what is subtle and the most hidden of the hidden.

    And you, as our elders have said,

    Are a deputy for the body of the Chosen One.

    لقصدكم نطرق باب الرجا

    God has indeed done to us what has come to pass;

    In seeking you, we knock at the door of hope.

    And once I regarded seeking you

    As nothing but polytheism and utter blindness.

    So God has disciplined me; have mercy

    On one esteemed among his people, humbled by this suffering.

    And keep my heart unharmed; perhaps it

    Will spread what it has read of your knowledge.

    Especially the knowledge of Being—

    Whoever catches a scent of it attains his wishes.

    And you know that in our land there is no

    One who knows it except me.

    You bestowed it on me, so do not go back

    On what you bestowed, O noble ones of the worlds.

    واليوم كونوا لي على ما مضى

    You honored me through my special bond with you;

    And today, be for me as you were before.

    So, O men of God, through you we indeed

    Ward off from ourselves the deadly perils of ruin.

    You were through us before; so we came to be through you

    Afterward; so express gratitude by aiding us.

    إليكم يُهرعُ شاكي الأذى

    May you ever remain leaders, O my masters;

    To you hastens the one who complains of suffering.
