1. أقولُ : " أتوبُ " ، لعلي أتوبْ

    وأمسحُ عني جميعَ الذنوبْ

    I say, "I repent"—perhaps I will repent,

    And wipe all sins away from me,

  2. لأخطِرَ فوق سحابِ السمـا

    وأَغسلَ روحي بطهرٍ وطيبْ

    So I may stride above the clouds of the sky,

    And wash my soul with purity and fragrance.

  3. وكم قـد عصيـتُ ! ولكننـي

    عَجِلتُ إليكَ ، وكُلّي عيـوبْ

    And how often I have disobeyed! Yet I

    Hastened to You, and I am full of faults.

  4. وكم قد شردتُ ! وها إنَّنـي

    هجرتُ إليك جميعَ الـدروبْ

    And how often I have strayed! And behold, I

    Have forsaken every road to come to You.

  5. وأثبتُّ قلبي بـدربِ الهـدى

    مناراً يَلُـمُّ شَتـاتَ القلـوبْ

    And I have set my heart firmly on the path of guidance,

    As a beacon bringing scattered hearts together.

  6. أَيُرضيكَ عنِّي فـؤادٌ غـدا

    بحبِّكَ ربي ، غريقَ الطيوبْ ؟

    Would You be pleased with me for a heart that has become

    Drowned in fragrances through love of You, my Lord?

  7. أيرضيك عنِّي وجيـبٌ بـدا

    وحزنٌ مقيمٌ ، ودمعٌ سَكوبْ ؟

    Would a heartbeat, now manifest, win Your favor for me,

    And abiding sorrow, and freely flowing tears?

  8. لِترضى سأدعو دعاءَ الغريقِ

    فتبْ يا إلهي ، على من يتوبْ

    That You may be pleased, I will pray the prayer of one drowning;

    So turn in mercy, O my God, to whoever repents.
