There is no time for sorrows or tears.
No time for sorrows or tears
No time remains for sorrows or for tears,
Beat the drums of war—this is my post.
The drums of war are beating, this is my station
Beat the drums of war; here I take my stand,

لا الشجب يجدي بل قذيفة مدفعي

قلب العدو مكانها فلتسمعي
Not condemnation, but my cannon's shell avails.
No good comes from lamenting, rather an artillery shell
Condemnation is futile; my cannon's shell speaks best,
The enemy's heart is its place—so listen.
Let it strike the heart of the enemy, so you may hear
Its target is the enemy's heart—so listen well,

O Jerusalem, O al-Aqsa, and all my capitals,
O Jerusalem! O Aqsa and all my capitals
O Jerusalem, O Aqsa, and all my capitals,
In Gaza and at Jericho—take heed.
In Gaza, and near Jericho, be aware
In Gaza and in Jericho—heed the call,

I am the voice of a people who said: I am marching
I am the voice of a people who said I am marching
I am the voice of a people declaring: I march,
To war, to the battlefield, taking my position.
To war, to the battlefield, taking my stand
To war, to the battlefield, claiming my ground,

لم يصغ شارون لأنه أضلعي
Fifty years have ripened the fruit of suffering.
Fifty years, the fruit of grief has ripened
Fifty years have ripened the bitter fruit of distress,
Sharon did not heed the groan of my ribs [probable reading].
Sharon did not heed, for he is the most insolent
Sharon would not listen, for he is the ache within my ribs,

He respected neither my Jerusalem nor my sanctuary within it.
He did not respect my sanctity or holy place
He respected neither my holiness nor my sanctuary,
Rather, he came to invade my ground with arrogance.
Rather he came invading my square arrogantly
But came to invade my courtyard with arrogant pride,

Does the occupier understand anything but to see
A shell from me in the place of greatest anguish?
From me a shell in the most painful place?
My shell strike him in the most grievous place?

War is for the brave in battle's marketplace,
War is for the brave in the tumult of battle
War belongs to the brave in the marketplace of fray,
Between the trenches, in a more glorious fight.
Between the trenches in the most splendid fighting
Amidst the trenches, in a combat most sublime,

None but their youth have freed the homelands,
Nothing liberates homelands but their youth
Nothing liberates the homelands but their youth,
With every cannon shot from a position.
In every cannon shot from a station
With every cannon shot fired from the front,

Jerusalem wants me as a self-sacrificing defender of the sanctuary,
Jerusalem calls me, its zealous guardian
Jerusalem seeks me as the guardian of the sanctuary,
Who protects it from an oppressor—'the bedchamber's melody' [unclear wording].
Protecting it from the singing deceiver
To protect it from the tyrant in his deceitful lair,

Jerusalem seeks me to repel its invaders,
If they try to touch the place with a finger.
If they try touching the place with a finger
Should they attempt to touch the site with a single finger,

The mighty cannon—its voice is silenced
The great cannon silences its voice
The mighty cannon silences with its roar
By another voice, from the loftiest station.
Any voice other than...from the highest stand
The voice of any other—from the highest station,

The child of stones said to his brother
The child of the stones declared it to his brother:
I am Jerusalem's knight, who has not yielded.
I am Jerusalem's knight who never yielded
"I am the knight of Jerusalem who never yielded,"

My chest is exposed to the foes' missile,
My chest is exposed to the enemy missile
My chest lies open to the enemy's missile,
And in my stone is death for the pretender's chest.
And death is in my lap for the false claimant
While death sits in my stone for the aggressor's breast.
