سألتُكِ يامن كُنتِ للعينِ جوهرا

وللقلب منظاراً وللحُسنِ منظرا

I asked you, O you who were essence to the eye

And spectacle to the heart and scene to beauty

سألتُكِ أن تُبقي عليَ لأنني

لقيتُ الذي هَدّ الكيان وأبهرا

I asked you to keep me because I

Met the one who guided existence and dazzled

رأيت من الإحسان حُسناً وحُسنكِ

أراني معاني الحُسن فيكِ ونوَّرا

I saw from kindness a beauty and your beauty

Showed me meanings of beauty in you and illuminated

فديتُكِ لو يُرضيكِ وجهكِ قُبلتي

ليممتهُ حتى ولو كان مُنكرا

I would sacrifice for you, if your face accepts my kiss

I would lean to it even if it was disavowed

فديتُكِ جودي بالرجا لي وهلهلي

وقولي لِمن قد راح ينشُر ما جرى

I would sacrifice for you, be generous to me and celebrate for me

And tell the one who went spreading what happened

عفوتَ عن المشكوك فيه وخلتهُ

خليلاً لأني كُنتُ بالحب أخبرا

You forgave the doubtful and left him

A friend because I was most expert in love

ويكفيني أن نالت عيوني إبتسامةً

مُصوبة نحو الفؤاد لكي يرى

And it suffices me that my eyes got a smile

Aimed at the heart so it can see

فما حيلتي أنْ قد حُرمت من الهنا

وما العُذر إن قارٍ قرا لي ألم ترا

So what can I do, that I was deprived of bliss

And what excuse, if one settled, did you not see my pain

لقد جَفت العينان من هول صدِها

وحاربها نوم من الهجر قد سرى

The two eyes dried from the horror of their hardness

And a sleep of estrangement attacked them

وأضناني هواها وإعتلتني وساوسُ

وناديت يا من كُنتِ للعين جوهرا

And his love weakened me and doubts bothered me

And I called "O you who were essence to the eye"

خُذي بيدي لا تترُكيني مُعذبا

فقد كان قلبي من هواكِ مفطَّرا

Take my hand, do not leave me tortured

For my heart was cracked from loving you

فلما رأت ما حَلَ بي من وِدادِها

وما نابني من صدِها لي وصوَّرا

So when she saw what happened to me from her love

And what I got from her hardness to me and portrayed

ترامت على صدري وضماً بِأذرُعي

وقالت لكَ العلياء لا تنسى مظهرا

She fell on my chest, hugged me

And told you the most high "Do not forget the scene"

تجلد فإني قد قَهرتُكَ في الهوى

ولكن لِعلمي كُنت مِلقهرِ أكبرا

Be patient, for I have overpowered you in love

But for my knowledge, you were the most overpowered

تعال لِحُبي نحنُ في الحب قطعةً

وقد كُنا في عين المُحبين منبرا

Come to my love, we are one in love

And we were on the pulpit in the eyes of lovers
