وَضَربَةً ذاتَ فَرغٍ تَقذِفُ الزَبَدا
But I ask the Most Merciful for forgiveness,
But I ask the Merciful for forgiveness
And a blow leaving a gaping wound that spews foam,
And a strike of perfect force that casts forth the foam,
أَوor طَعنَةًa thrust بِيَدَيby the two hands of حَرّانَa man burning with rage مُجهِزَةًfatal

بِحَربَةٍ تُنفِذُ الأَحشاءَ وَالكَبِدا
Or a fatal thrust at the hands of a man burning with rage,
Or a stab by hands burning, made ready
With a spear that pierces the entrails and the liver,
With a blade to pierce the guts and liver,
حَتّىso that يُقالَit may be said إِذاwhen مَرّواthey pass عَلىby جَدَثيmy grave

أَرشَدَهُ اللَهُ مِن غازٍ وَقَد رَشَدا
So that, when they pass by my grave, it may be said:
Until it’s said when they pass my grave:
“May God guide him—a warrior who has indeed found the right path.”
“God guided him from one who went raiding and gave guidance.”
