أَقدِرِValue الوُدَّthe affection بَينَناbetween us قَدَرَهits due worth
Tell Husayn, a man of affection and sincerity:
Say to the one of affection and purity, Husain
Give the affection between us its due.
I appreciate the love between us, for what it's worth
لَيسَthere is not لِلدابِغِfor the tanner المُحَلَّمِworking spoiled hides (technical epithet uncertain) بُدٌّany escape
مِنfrom عِتابِreworking (also: reproaching) الأَديمِthe hide ذيpossessing البَشَرَهthe outer skin
A tanner working a spoiled hide has no choice
The tanner has no choice
but to rework the hide with its outer skin.
But to endure the leather's reproach
لَستُI am not إِنif زاغَstrays ذوa possessor of إِخاءٍbrotherhood وَوُدٍّand affection

If a man of brotherhood and affection strays, I will not
If one of brotherly love strays
follow his footsteps away from the path.
From the path, I do not follow his trail
بَلrather أُديمُI maintain الثَناءَthe praise وَالوُدَّand the affection حَتّىuntil

Rather, I maintain praise and affection until
Rather, I persist in praise and affection until
he follows the truth thereafter, or forsakes it.
Truth is later followed, or abandoned
