لا يُزهِدَنَّكَ في أَخٍ

لا يُزهِدَنَّكَ في أَخٍ

لَكَ أَن تَراهُ زَلَّ زَلَّه

لَكَ أَن تَراهُ زَلَّ زَلَّه

Do not lose regard for a brother

of yours because you see him make a slip.

ما مِن أَخٍ لَكَ لا تَعي

ما مِن أَخٍ لَكَ لا تَعي

بُ وَلَو حَرِصتَ عَلَيهِ خِلَّه

بُ وَلَو حَرِصتَ عَلَيهِ خِلَّه

There is no brother of yours in whom you do not find

a trait to fault, however much you care for him.

وَالمَرءُ يَطرَحُهُ الَّذي

وَالمَرءُ يَطرَحُهُ الَّذي

نَ يَلونَهُ في شَرِّ إِلَّه

نَ يَلونَهُ في شَرِّ إِلَّه

And a man is cast down by those

closest to him, into the worst plight.

وَيَخونُهُ مِن مَأمَنٍ

وَيَخونُهُ مِن مَأمَنٍ

أَهلُ البِطانَةِ وَالدِخِلَّه

أَهلُ البِطانَةِ وَالدِخِلَّه

And he is betrayed from a trusted quarter

by his intimates and confidants.

وَالمَوتُ أَعظَمُ حادِثٍ

وَالمَوتُ أَعظَمُ حادِثٍ

مِمّا يَمُرُّ عَلى الجِبِلَّه

مِمّا يَمُرُّ عَلى الجِبِلَّه

And death is the greatest calamity

of all that befalls humankind.
