مريضُ الظنّ موبوءٌ بسوءٍ

مريضُ الظنّ موبوءٌ بسوءٍ

وليس له من الأدواءِ طِبُّ

وليس له من الأدواءِ طِبُّ

One sick with suspicion is plagued by evil,

The suspicious one is infected with evil

and there is no cure for his ailments.

And has no cure for illnesses

يسيءُ لأقربِ الأحبابِ منه

يسيءُ لأقربِ الأحبابِ منه

ومالَهُمُ بما قد ظنَّ ذَنْبُ

ومالَهُمُ بما قد ظنَّ ذَنْبُ

He wrongs the loved ones closest to him,

He does wrong to those closest to him

though they bear no guilt for what he has suspected.

Though they have no fault in what he suspects
