A day that will remain a heading in the book of time,
A day that remains a title in the book of time
inscribed by our slain with the blood of Jerusalem.
Inscribed by the blood of Jerusalem's martyrs

A grim day, as though death had clothed it
A sullen day, as if death had clothed it
in the Tatars' robe and made it suffer our ordeal by fire.
In the Tatar's garb and made it a crucifix

A day gone by, setting our livers aflame, so we cannot
A day gone by, kindling in us sorrows, yet we cannot
ward it off or find consolation for it.
Repel it or seek solace from it

How can we find solace when scenes of it
a child who at daybreak today was draped in shrouds?
Fill our eyes? A child donned the shroud of dawn today

An image broadcast by television, so distressing
stirring sorrows within the sorrowful mind!
It stirs sorrow in the heart of the grieved

They would moan, but the villain's heart is warped

A wounded father...a frightened child...and a hail
spewed as flames from the barracks of hatred.
Of hatred spewing from the dens of malice

The two cannot fend it off; the bullets, whenever
They cannot resist...and when the bullets
they try to flee, rain down on wherever they are.
Take aim, they rain upon where the two once stood

The anxious, helpless father begs them
And the worried wretched father asks them
for compassion, but they were blind to pity.
For mercy, but they are blind to compassion

The child screams...but none responds except
except death's buzzing, in injustice and tyranny.
The whizzing of villainy, injustice and tyranny

His father hides him behind, anxious

To protect him, ransoming him with souls and bodies

Bewilderment appears etched upon his eyes,
Bewilderment shows in his eyes, the greatest
and terror is the greatest thing he has endured and suffered.
Of terrors he has endured and suffered

A child with a dream, like the children of humankind;
A child who, like all the world's children, held a dream
if it were planted, it would bring the earth to life as a garden.
That would have brought the land to life, a flourishing garden

And if the lands of the Muslims watered it, it would grow
Had the Muslim world nurtured him...he would have grown
amid the wastelands into blossoms and sweet basil.
Among barren sands into flowers and basil

joy in happiness and sorrow in grief!
In joy, joy, and in sorrows, sorrows
