What harm was there when the dweller in my heart went far away,

If he lay asleep in my blood or deep within my breast?

The lightning stirred him with sorrows for his homeland.

Whoever inhabits the heart wants no other there.

What harm would it do if they abandoned their dwellings within us?

Alas for the heart’s anguish! Patience has indeed run out.

What is wrong with the beloved, that they do not safeguard their affection

For one who clung to them with abiding love, forever?
