Take, take my heart, captive to trials.

For separation and silence have stirred sorrow.

O enchantment of the prayer niche in my prostration,

And Surah Al-Ikhlas on the day of trials.

The desert of love's heart is yearning.

And the wound has made my heart weep, and it has groaned.

And the eyelid complains of love's sleeplessness.

What ails it, that it has forbidden even drowsiness?

Is it after a binding covenant between us—

That will not be folded away, however time folds it—

That we close two doors we opened

For safety after fear, after sorrow?

Do not be distressed by a spiteful critic.

Speak of love, lovingly, and let whoever suspects suspect.
