ماwhat بالُthe matter with عَينكَyour eye دانَتhave yielded
ما بالُ عَينكَ دانَت
لَهاto it العُيونُthe eyes المِراضُthe ailing
لَها العُيونُ المِراضُ
What is it with your eye? They have yielded
Why have your eyes become sickly
to it—the ailing eyes.
Though eyes are meant for pleasure
للسُّقمِfor sickness والسِّحرِand enchantment فيهاin it
للسُّقمِ والسِّحرِ فيها
وللفُتورِand for languor اعتِراضُan intrusion
وللفُتورِ اعتِراضُ
Within it, sickness and enchantment,
In them is sickness, magic, and fatigue
and languor, make themselves felt.
As well as painful denial
إنif أنكَرَتit denies ماwhat أُلاقيI suffer
إن أنكَرَت ما أُلاقي
فَأمرُهاthen its affair مُستَفاضُwidely known
فَأمرُها مُستَفاضُ
If it denies what I suffer,
Even if they deny what I suffer
then its story is widely known.
Their condition speaks clearly enough
