Was it not you who stirred his anguish?

Then why do you say, 'What ails him?'

    Perhaps you feared his family,

so you feigned ignorance of what befell him.

Then how will you excuse yourself if they question

him, and he speaks, and they listen to what he says?

And among people is one who makes light of his plight,

yet, had he understood it, it would have appalled him.

And tears that meant laying love bare,

when I hastened to let them flow,

then eased my burden—and how long

will the secret make me bear its burdens?

    ومَن باحَ كثرَ عُذالَهُ

    Yet they at once added to my burden;

and whoever divulges his secret has many reproachers.
