وأرَّقَت فُرقتُه عَيني

When the master sat in an assembly

When the teacher sat in an assembly

For glory, between the two princes.

ولا يُلامُ الدَّهرُ في عَجزِه

ولا يُلامُ الدَّهرُ في عَجزِه

عن قلمٍ ما بينَ سَيفَينِ

عن قلمٍ ما بينَ سَيفَينِ

Nor is time to blame for its powerlessness

And time is not to blame in its inadequacy
