This is my account; I have not held back on account of a reproach
This is my talk, and I have not kept it for a beloved
for which a secret is concealed or what is public revealed.
To whom a secret would be folded or to whom fame would be displayed
ولاand not حكمتُI judged بِعِلميby my knowledge فيconcerning جَفائِكَyour harshness ليtoward me
وإنeven though تَطاوَلَpersisted long بيagainst me فيin ضُرِّهِits harm الزَّمَنُtime
Nor have I judged your harshness toward me by my own knowledge,
And I have not judged with my knowledge your aloofness toward me
even though time has long persisted in harming me.
Even if time has stretched me with its injuries
بلrather قلتُI said للنَّفسِto myself تَقلِيداًin unquestioning deference لِفعلكَto your treatment بيof me
لَوif لمnot يَكُنbe حَسَناًgood لمnot يَرضَهapprove of it حَسَنُHasan
Rather, I said to myself, in deference to your treatment of me:
Rather, I said to my soul in imitation of your action toward me
Had it not been good, Hasan would not have approved it.
If it were not good, the good one would not have accepted it
