Seeking peace with the nights, while among

what lies between us is distance from peace.

I swore to seek aid from none but a youth,

a fiercer enemy to them than dawn.

in dealing with them, from Abu al-Fath's counsel.

one suffers, the need for explicit speech and explanation.

His lineage, visible in his face, has never ceased

to bring hopes glad tidings of success.

He is thought drunk whenever his palm

pours forth; he neither sobers up nor sobers others.
