جزاكَ اللَهُ عن ذا النُّصحِ خَيراً

جزاكَ اللَهُ عن ذا النُّصحِ خَيراً

ولكن جاءَ في الزمنِ الأخيرِ

ولكن جاءَ في الزمنِ الأخيرِ

May God reward you well for this counsel.

May God reward you for this good advice,

But it came in the latter days.

But it has come in recent times,

وقد حدَّت لي السَّبعون حداً

وقد حدَّت لي السَّبعون حداً

نهى عمَّا أمرتَ من الأمورِ

نهى عمَّا أمرتَ من الأمورِ

And seventy years have set a limit for me,

When I have reached the age of seventy,

That forbids the things you urged me to do.

And been forbidden from what you commanded.

ومذ صارَت نفوسُ الناس حَولي

ومذ صارَت نفوسُ الناس حَولي

قِصاراً عذتُ بالأملِ القَصيرِ

قِصاراً عذتُ بالأملِ القَصيرِ

And since the souls of the people around me have become

Since people's souls around me grew short,

Small, I have sought refuge in limited hope.

I have been satisfied with brief hope.
