الوجد في العشاقِ موجودُه

Love's anguish is found among lovers,
but anguish like mine for you is nowhere found.
ياO قمرٌmoon يوعدُنيpromises me طرفُهhis glance
يا قمرٌ يوعدُني طرفُه
بوصلهِof union with him لوif only صَحَّproved true مَوعودُهُhis promise
بوصلهِ لو صَحَّ مَوعودُهُ
O moon, whose glance promises me
union with him—if only his promise proved true!
حتىuntil متىwhen نومُكyour sleep عنheedless of ناظرٍan eye
حتى متى نومُك عن ناظرٍ
أيسرُthe least grievous ماwhat يلقاهencounters it تسهيدُهُits being kept awake
أيسرُ ما يلقاه تسهيدُهُ
How long will you sleep, heedless of an eye
whose least affliction is sleeplessness?
يشهدُbear witness ليfor me أهلُthe people of الوفاfaithfulness بالوفاto faithfulness
يشهدُ لي أهلُ الوفا بالوفا
فيin الحبِّlove لماwhen بانَbecame plain مشهودُهُwhat is witnessed of it
في الحبِّ لما بانَ مشهودُهُ
The faithful bear witness to my faithfulness
in love, when its evidence became plain.
